Photographing my kids at every age and stage is such a fun way to document their growth and personality. When I look at their images I can often hear the sound of their laughter, or the way their voices sound. If you know my youngest, Auden, at all, you know he is our little “Sour Patch Kid.” Sweet one moment, and a ball of terror the next. I mean that lovingly, of course. So when I took him to the New Light Studio in Bedford for his third birthday portraits, I received the sour patch kid mode in full force.
Let me tell you about my son real quick before we move on. He has the biggest brown eyes, one sweet dimple on his left cheek, and a little grey tooth. This boy can charm even the coldest of hearts. I am often told he is going to be a major heartbreaker and have no problem getting what he wants in life. Though no one has said this to my face, I also believe Auden may one day be a bully. I know it seems harsh, but hear me out.
Though he may be sweet and charming, the attitude on this kid is REAL. Words I often use to describe him are rude, commanding and fierce. He has no issue pushing his older brother around, screaming his head off, or talking back to anyone. But I promise, I do love him!
Right after Auden turned three, we went to the grocery store. As we were waiting in line to check out, there was an elderly gentleman in line behind us. He smiled and waved at Auden. Auden’s response?
*Glares. *Points finger. And yells, “GO TO YOUR ROOM!” *Spits.
Remarkable.
But that’s Auden in a nutshell. A personality for the ages. You tell me he’s not destined to be a “meaniehead”
Now that you know a bit more about him and his personality, you will have a better understanding of some of the images you are about to see. When we arrived at the New Light Studio things were going great. Auden was sweet and smiling, and being the best! After about thirty minutes the sour came. Along with numerous expressions that had me on the floor ROLLING!
This session takes the cake for best editing experience. I spent hours laughing going through these photos! Just when I thought they couldn’t get any better, I kept scrolling and said “Okay no, THIS one is my favorite!” I can’t wait to display them at his wedding.
Now that i’m finished picking on my child and talking about what a horrible toddler he is, it’s time to get sentimental.
My three year old Auden loves to play with legos. He can watch Encanto all day long.
Oh wait, no, now it’s Moana.
Just kidding guys, it’s The Incredibles.
Wait, he INSISTS he wants to watch Moana.
Nope. Monster’s Inc. That’s the one we’ve decided on.
Ok, now i’m done.
He enjoys swinging at the park, and finding the best stick in the yard. His favorite thing to do is get a haircut. Popcorn is his favorite food. And like any other three year old boy he loves race cars, trains and airplanes.
While many days with him are difficult, I know how special he is. The moments I want to cry on the floor, I remind myself that he will only be this age once. In times when I feel overwhelmed by Auden’s attitude, I realize what a blessing it is to have the opportunity to point my child to Jesus. That’s what I love so much about these birthday sessions: documenting my children the way they are. Because I know when Auden is grown up and in prison (I’M KIDDING!) I will look at these pictures and think to myself “I wish he was three again.”
Happy third Birthday, Auden! We love you so much!
xoxo Mommy
