People always tell you before you become a parent how fast it all goes by. I never truly understood until I became a parent myself, and in the blink of an eye had a SEVEN year old! How?! Yesterday was his first day of second grade, and I can vividly remember when I was in second grade! How is it possible for me to already have a child that old? It really is going by so fast.
Every year for my kid’s birthday’s I like to take their pictures to document their growth and personality. Last year I took Rowen’s pictures in Houston near the ocean, which suited him well considering he LOVES the beach! You can see that blog post here. This year, since we don’t live next to the ocean, lakeside was our next best option. There is a place on Grapevine Lake called Murrell Park that I absolutely love! Aside from its pretty lake views it also has lush grass fields and the most beautiful golden hour light. Murrell Park is one of my favorite locations to shoot at!
When Rowen turned six I relished in the opportunity to photograph him with his sweet smile one final time, certain by the time he turned seven his top teeth would be gone. About a month before I took his photos those top two teeth began to wiggle, and I said to myself, “Here we go. No more perfect smile.” But to my surprise, they NEVER came out! They’re actually still in there, not wanting to be set free. I was so excited that I got to have one more year of his sweet grin before those gigantic choppers come in. Year eight though, that will be the year…
Rowen and I actually had a great time exploring Murrell Park and throwing rocks into the lake. He even came up with some of his own poses and ideas that he wanted to do. “I want to stand on this cliff and look like Superman!” he said. Absolutely, kid, because you are Superman.
Right now, Rowen is into Spiderman, monster trucks, sharks, and has a new found love for sports. Particularly baseball. We took him to a Ranger game on his birthday, and what a joy it was to see his eyes light up with excitement the entire game. (Which is really saying something because it was a bad game!) Watching him dance his little heart out to try and get on the Jumbotron was so much fun, and I just love seeing my little guy so happy and so passionate about something.
Happy seventh birthday to our Rowen! We love you so much, and can’t wait to see the blessings God bestows in your life this next year!
