This session is definitely one of the most rewarding i’ve ever had the privilege of photographing. Io has been one of my best friends since we first met in 7th grade over fifteen years ago! We’d spend our summers walking to Walmart, filming YouTube videos (which regrettably still exist) and cooling off at our community pool. So when she asked me to take her and Hunter’s downtown Dallas engagement session I couldn’t have said “YES!” fast enough!
During our time growing up, I had a pink digital camera that I carried around with me quite often. This was back before iPhones existed and we needed quality content for our Myspace accounts.. But anywho, to save ourselves from major embarrassment I won’t be sharing any photos on this blog. But to this day I STILL have some of those photos Io and I took on my little camera during one of our many Walmart adventures! Posing in front of cupcakes wearing children’s sunglasses and all. Very glamorous stuff.
I could honestly say though my love and creativity for photography flourished in those days. What a long way we have come since then! From Walmart to weddings! I’m very grateful our friendship has lasted through the test of time, and that after all these years we are still doing photo sessions together. (Thankfully no longer in Walmart, although that would have made for an interesting engagement session!)
In the eight years I have been a photographer I have only gotten to do a session in Dallas once! I was so excited to head back downtown for a fun city-scape adventure! Io and Hunter live in Dallas and met through working at Southwest Airlines, so I knew downtown photos would suit them well. We started our session in the arts district, then headed to Flippen Park afterward for a more casual setting. I’ve wanted to go to Flippen park for so long, so it was so fun to finally get to see it!
Even though we ran out of light at the end of our session and the wind gave us a bit of a hard time, i’m still so happy with the beautiful images we got! I love that Io and Hunter were down to get their feet wet and hop into the fountain at the end! Seeing my best friend so happy makes me elated, and I loved getting to spend time with her and Hunter. We rewarded ourselves with a post session dinner and drinks and it was such a treat to have a night out with friends and experience where they live.
Io and Hunter, thank you so much for allowing me the true honor of getting to take your engagement photos! I’m so happy to have gotten to document a part of your love story. Thank you for trotting me around Dallas and showing me parts of this beautiful city I rarely get to see! I absolutely cannot wait to live it up on your wedding day! It’s going to be the best day ever! Love you both so much!
xoxo Alyssa
