The sun shimmered over the crystal blue water on those hot summer days, as me and my cousins spent many days out there in the pool as children. Goggles so tight on our faces they would create those red marks around our eyes, and constantly competing to see who could do the best handstand. I can still see as clear as day my youngest cousin, Kyla, emerging from the cool water, flipping her golden hair back behind her and proudly stating, “Look I’m George Washington!” Looking back through our childhood so many memories like these play back in my head, and Kyla has always been the one to create laughter out of anything. From jumping on the bed while blasting Britney Spears, screaming our heads off while locking ourselves in the bathroom to play Bloody Mary, laughing as hard as we had ever laughed before the first time we watched Napoleon Dynamite, daydreaming about the day we’d all marry someone from NSYNC (Justin was mine, and Kyla loved Lance), putting on a Luau in the backyard and performing ‘Copacabana’ for our families (tiki torches and all), from sleepovers, to concerts, and now.. her wedding day.
Last night Kyla married Tucker Pettit on a beautiful October evening under the most visually dynamic tree. Everything turned out so wonderful, and it was truly a special night. It warmed my heart seeing Tucker cry when he saw how beautiful she looked. While I got to enjoy the wedding as a guest this time and take a night off, I was so incredibly honored to have been asked to photograph Kyla’s bridal portraits. Kyla is absolutely stunning and so easy to photograph, and all the details on her wedding dress were so intricate and fit her style well. I love the difference in contrast between her dark hair and her white dress, with the pops of her tattoos and flowers. We had such a great time and shared so many laughs (while also being followed and photobombed by the most adorable cat) and this will be another wonderful memory of Kyla added to my list.
Kyla, you are so beautiful inside and out, and I love that we are family. Thank goodness things didn’t work with Lance Bass, because you and Tucker are so great for each other, and I can see how much he loves you when he looks at you. I look forward to creating new memories and sharing more laughs with both of you. I wish you a long, and happy life together.
Much love, cuz!
XOXO
