When we were about eleven years old, my cousin, Kaycee, and I would come home from school and settle ourselves in her living room in front of the tv. Probably getting ready to watch MTV (because that’s what you did in 2005) stuffing our faces with fruit roll-ups and oatmeal cream pies. Since the two of us are a mere three weeks a part in age, we were always pretty close and confided in one another. During those MTV commercial breaks we would chit-chat and ponder about our futures and dream about the guys we would marry someday, and what our children would be like. This is when I apparently discovered I had some sort of sixth sense, because I was quite confident when I said to Kaycee, “I bet you are going to have a bunch of rambunctious little boys running around one day, and will drive them to soccer practice in your Mom car.” Now here we are nearly 17 years later, and I can say “I was right.”
Kaycee and her husband, Scott, will be welcoming their second son, Hanson, this September. Little Nolan joined the family in 2018, and he is going to make such a good big brother. It’s so wild that between me and Kaycee we will have four boys running around and getting into trouble! I could always see her as a boy Mom, but I never pictured we would be doing it alongside one another. All of our boys are close in age (within a few years of one another), and it such a great blessing to be able to raise our kids together. I know my boys are going to love having another new little cousin to play with!
I took Kaycee and Scott’s maternity photos a few years ago when Kaycee was pregnant with Nolan, so it was so much fun to get to do this for them again. The first time it was a cold morning in January. This time around it was a gorgeous summer maternity session in June down by the lake. My favorite! I was so worried it was going to rain down on us at some point, but the sun came out to play and gave us such beautiful light for their images! Between that, their perfectly coordinated outfits for summer, and the amazing hair and makeup job done by Kaycee’s sister, Kyla, (you might remember her from her bridal portraits) these images are some of my favorites EVER!
Little Nolan got to run around and play and give his baby brother lots of hugs and kisses from outside the womb, and enjoy time with just his Mom and Dad. It is so special to capture families in their current season of life before such a big milestone. I can’t wait for baby Hanson to join the fun with us! We ended their summer maternity session by stepping into the lake for some water photos, and before the sun went down we could see a rainbow in the distance. It could not have been a more beautiful evening.
Kaycee and Scott, I am so excited for your family as you are about to welcome another sweet boy into the world. Raising our kids together is such a treat, and I can’t wait for all the memories we will all make together in the future- on and off of my camera. My sixth sense is telling me we are in for some great adventures. 🙂
