It’s that time of year again! When the temperatures in Texas cool off for a few days, and then jump back up to 95 degrees, when the pumpkin spice lattes return at Starbucks before even a single leaf falls on the ground, and my personal favorite: it’s the time of year when I pull out my tripod to photograph my own family photos.
Last year was the very first time I had ever attempted to take my own family’s portraits. It was certainly hard work (especially since my kids were four and 10 months) but seeing the end results were definitely worth it. Now in 2019 it took us two days to complete our session due to super dark skies on day one (you can read about it here) so this year I was determined to get our family photos done in one day.
Well, that of course didn’t happen.
Day one this year we had I believe 18mph winds, but I said let’s go for it anyway! Thankfully I got some great photos of my husband and our boys, but all the photos of me were pretty much useless. (wah wah.) Now day two was incredibly successful! Everyone was in a good mood, we got some beautiful images (seriously my husband killed it this time around being behind the lens!) and we were done in less than an hour! Cue the confetti cannons!
Now, is it super time consuming to take my own family’s photos? Absolutely! But like I said last year, it is the most rewarding gift I can give myself and my family. My son Auden will be two soon, and I don’t have a single photo of him in our house! (I know, I am a terrible photographer Mom) So I am really excited to get these beautiful images of my family up on our walls.
I am truly grateful for such a supportive family, and for getting all dressed up TWO days for TWO years in a row to take photos with me (they must really love me!) Our family photos are some of my most treasured items, and I love getting to document our family bond and love for each other. Let’s just hope we can photograph our 2021 session in ONE day!
